“Swing’s the Thing” is a 17-piece big band based in Central Ohio. With many great tunes in our book, “Swing’s the Thing” will bring your event to life by playing hits from a variety of new artists, while respecting the origins of big band by playing tunes from the books of such legends as Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton, Buddy Rich and Woody Herman, just to name a few. “Swing’s the Thing’s” repertory also covers a wide range of dance styles that include swing, rock, ballad, blues, cha cha, rumba, mambo, samba, waltz, disco, foxtrot and polka. “Swing’s the Thing” proudly features our pianist, Jan Schlosser – Wise and trombonist, Mark Watson, as vocalists on a variety of our great charts. In recent years, “Swing’s the Thing” has performed for private parties and receptions, Oglebay Resort in Wheeling, West Virginia, Lakeside Association on Lake Erie, “Cambridge Concert Association”, Cambridge, Ohio and at several Columbus area public events that included Gahanna’s ”Creekside Blues and Jazz Festival”, Worthington’s “Concert on the Green”, Lancaster’s “Friday Night at the Bandstand”, Grove City’s “Arts in the Alley” and “Summer Sizzle” concert series, Upper Arlington’s “Summer Music Series”, Newark’s “Jazz and Rib Fest”, Dawes Arboretum, The Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena and for Columbus Clippers games at Huntington Park, The Columbus “Jazz & Rib Festival”, The Dublin Art Council’s “Sunday at Scioto” concert series, “Salt Fork Arts and Crafts Festival”, Cambridge, Ohio and The Guy C. Meyers Memorial Band Shell in Ashland, Ohio. In 2015, we were pleased to add Mt. Vernon, Ohio where we played a July 4th concert for the dedication of the Ariel Foundation Park.
